Heavy Civil Dirt Foreman

Outstanding opportunity to join a well-respected heavy civil construction company that primarily focuses on underground utilities, mass excavation, paving and bridgework. We are currently seeking an experienced and safety-oriented Dirt Foreman, with or without a dirt crew, to join our team in the greater Houston-Metropolitan area. The Dirt Foreman will be responsible for leading a crew in the effective and efficient execution of excavation, grading, material spreading, base building, and/or earth moving to prep and construct roads and other heavy civil infrastructure projects. Heavy equipment which will be used may include but is not limited to front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, supervise and coordinate onsite work crews
  • Observe assigned equipment to detect machinery malfunctions / assure the proper operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Responsible for crew safety / establish a safe work environment that complies with the Company safety program
  • Assist in the coordination of construction activities
  • Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
  • Operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety
  • Continually inspects work site, surveying for potential hazards or safety concerns
  • Maintain an organized job site
  • Ensure job equipment and tools are maintained in good working order and are safe for use
  • Attend and facilitate coordination, production, and safety meetings
  • Tracking and recording daily production of the crews and reporting back to the superintendent
  • Communicate with onsite subcontractors, general contractors and/or owners
  • Supervise installation and completion of work on time and budget
  • Order and schedule equipment and material(s) deliveries as required
  • Review and approve employee time reporting

Qualifications, Competencies and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience working with heavy equipment and functioning as a foreman or crew lead
  • Basic understanding of grade-checking, construction math (volumes, area takeoffs, conversions), plan reading
  • Knowledge of soil and base construction, earthwork quality control test methods
  • Understand the capabilities of earthwork equipment
  • Understand the basics of GPS technology and survey
  • Ability to pass all required safety orientation and training
  • Ability to adjust actions in relation to others’ actions, give full attention to what other people are saying, and logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
